Johan Naudé

BA LLB IRDP (Stell)

Johan Naudé has graduate and postgraduate qualifications in law, social sciences and human resources from the University of Stellenbosch. He is an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa and a Director of FutureLead. His career experience of 28 years includes work in criminal justice, as legal advisor and general manager in business development, financing and advocacy and as multi-disciplinary management consultant for international development agency, public and private sector clients.

His professional career in South Africa has included positions as:

  • State Advocate at the Magistrates Court and the Commercial Division of the High Court of the Witwatersrand Local Division in Johannesburg (1981- 1984)
  • Researcher and Committee Member for the Law Review Project, an initiative by leading South African corporates for the reform of discriminatory policies and legislation restricting the small business sector and access to economic opportunities (1984 -1995)
  • Senior general manager for a national business development agency with responsibilities in respect of legal compliance, development promotion, marketing, advisory and training services, business financing, property development, implementation of enterprise development programmes, institutional development and advocacy (1984 -1995)
  • Management consultant in sectors such as local government, public sector administration and basic services delivery, tourism, education, financial services, business training, enterprise development and agriculture (1996 - current)

As management consultant with FutureLead since 2001, he has led assignments with teams of multi-disciplinary consultants in Southern, East and West Africa such as governance and legal compliance reviews, business and economic development research and strategy, institutional and organisational capacity building and restructuring, out-sourcing assessment and implementation, and development project and organizational evaluations and impact studies.

Assignments’ have been completed for Shell, SAB Miller, Khula Enterprise Finance, DFID, Development Bank of Southern Africa, European Union, Kellogg Foundation, Cordaid Netherlands, Swedish International Development Agency, CARE, GTZ, SNV (Netherlands Development Organisation), the South African Departments of Provincial and Local Government, Education, and Trade and Industry and several leading South African Universities.

He has recently worked extensively in Ghana on public sector reform, local government decentralisation and water governance and management, and as an Associate of Deloitte Namibia.
